CleanSpark buys 20,000 Antminer S19j Pro+ miners at a 25% discount

The mining company CleanSpark has purchased 20,000 Antminer S19j Pro+ units, bringing its fleet to 46,500 devices.

The total purchase price was $43.6 million, but the manufacturer offered a 25% discount. Therefore CleanSpark will pay $32.3 million for the equipment delivered — about $13.25 per terahash per second.

“Pro+ is more energy-efficient and 22% more powerful than the popular Antminer S19j Pro. The device will be delivered in batches starting next month,” said the company's representatives.

The new miners will raise CleanSpark’s available hashrate by 2.44 EH/s to 9 EH/s (+37%).

The 26,500 devices already in the company’s possession were also purchased at a discount last year, during the bear market.

“We also intend to change our strategy when the time comes, looking toward futures contracts. We believe that trends are starting to change, so locking in prices for large orders will become part of our strategy in the coming months,” said Zac Bradford, CEO of the company, in an interview with The Block.

In 2022, prices for mining equipment fell by more than 80%. But in early 2023, the price per terahash stabilized, as shown in the chart below.

In January CleanSpark began construction of the second phase of the data centre in Washington (Georgia, USA), to increase the capacity of the previously acquired facility by 50 MW.
