Clearview AI, the developer of the facial-recognition system, has released an update named Clearview 2.0, featuring enhanced biometric identification tools. stated in the company’s press release.
According to Clearview AI CEO Hoan Ton-That, the innovations include image-enhancement tools that allow researchers to use photos with partially obscured faces, poor lighting and low resolution.
“Clearview AI 2.0 adds several security and functionality enhancements to an already proven technology […] to help investigators use it in a more convenient way that facilitates rapid matching [facial recognition] in investigations,” Ton-Tet said.
According to him, the service’s database contains more than 20 billion images of people from around the world.
Clearview 2.0 also improves workflow tracking and reporting. The company says this will help curb privacy violations and police abuse.
The new version also improves training of new users and introduces additional verification steps.
The company has already begun rolling out the update to existing customers, including more than 3,100 agencies in the United States, among them the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and hundreds of local agencies.
As reported, Clearview AI provided the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence with access to the database following Russia’s invasion of the country.
In November 2021, the software of the notoriously controversial startup entered the ranks of the top ten most accurate facial-recognition systems.
In October, the Clearview AI database contained 10 billion faces.
