CloneX NFT Avatars Reappear After Temporary Disappearance

Over 19,800 digital avatars from the NFT collection by RTFKT Studios have reappeared following a blockage of images by the cloud service CloudFlare.

On April 24, asset owners found a notification from the CDN service provider instead of their assets:

“This content is restricted. Using CloudFlare’s basic service in this manner is a violation of the Terms of Service. Please visit cfl.re/tos to learn more.”

Outraged users suspected fraud. One NFT owner claimed to have spent $1.25 million on tokens and demanded a refund.

RTFKT’s technical director, Samuel Cardillo, denied the emerging assumptions about a payment delay to CloudFlare — the deadline is April 30.

According to him, the issue was related to changes in the company’s service settings. The decision had been discussed since December but was only made in April due to corporate procedures.

“This morning, for some reason, CloudFlare decided to switch to a free plan a few days before the contract ended, causing an error that led the service to refuse to broadcast images and videos,” Cardillo explained.

He noted that RTFKT is working with the decentralized platform ArWeave on a solution for displaying the CloneX and Animus collections.

Back in 2021, the NFT studio, then a promising startup, was acquired by Nike. In December 2024, RTFKT announced the cessation of its activities.
