CME Group launches Ethereum options

The Chicago-based CME Group запустила опционы на Ethereum.

The contract is a single futures contract for 50 ETH.

“With market participants awaiting the upcoming The Merge for Ethereum, which could change the playing field for one of the largest cryptocurrency networks, interest in ether derivatives is growing. Launch of our new Ethereum option contracts is especially timely to provide the community with another important instrument for gaining access to ether and managing it,” said Tim McCourt, head of equity and forex products at CME Group.

According to him, trading volume of Ethereum futures has risen by 43% since launch.

“Options are an integral part of the trading strategy used by institutional counterparties [the platform] Cumberland for hedging risk or gaining access to the asset class without holding it on balance,” said Rob Strebel, head of public relations at DRW.

Earlier in August, CME Group announced the launch of euro-denominated Ethereum futures.
