The Public Prosecutor’s Office of North Holland has confirmed the detention of the co-founder of the bitcoin exchanges Coyote Crypto and EggChange, Denis Dubnikov, at the request of the United States, сообщает RIA Novosti.
The detention period before transfer to the United States can last up to 60 days.
“I can confirm that on November 2 a man from Russia was detained at Schiphol Airport. We cannot say when his possible extradition to the United States will take place. The detention period for extradition purposes is a maximum of 60 days. During these days the United States must submit a full package of documents regarding the extradition request,” said Ilze de Heer, spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office.
She also noted that proceedings in the case cannot begin until the United States sends the full package of documents with the extradition request for the Russian national.
Denis Dubnikov was detained on 2 November in the Netherlands at the FBI’s request.
Earlier, three well-informed sources confirmed Bloomberg’s information about an investigation being conducted in the United States and Europe into the EggChange exchange on money laundering.
Lawyer Arkady Buh said that his client is suspected of money laundering by Ryuk ransomware operators. If his guilt is proven in the United States, Dubnikov faces up to 20 years in prison.
