Coinbase CEO calls Bitcoin the 'most important' asset

The chief executive of Coinbase, Brian Armstrong, has dubbed Bitcoin the ‘most important’ cryptocurrency, while confirming the exchange’s plan to integrate the Lightning Network (LN).

‘The team did a great job digging into this, and we’ve decided to integrate Lightning,’ said the exchange’s chief.

He added that implementing the L2 network would take ‘some time’ and urged users to be patient.

Armstrong’s remarks followed consultations on implementing LN.

The Block’s head, Jack Dorsey, asked Coinbase co-founder why he continues to ignore Bitcoin and Lightning.

‘We’re looking into how best to add LN. It’s non-trivial, but I think it’s worth integrating. I’m for payments taking place in Bitcoin,’ Armstrong replied.

According to LookIntoBitcoin data, the capacity of the Lightning Network for microtransactions has grown over the past year, but began to soften in mid-summer. At the time of writing, the figure stood at 4,745 BTC ($124.3 million).
