Coinbase chief pledges to integrate Lightning Network

Coinbase will deploy the Bitcoin micropayment network Lightning Network (LN) “in some capacity,” according to the exchange’s chief executive officer Brian Armstrong.

“LN — it’s great, and we’ll implement it”, the executive promised.

Armstrong responded to criticism that he “actively ignores” the L2 solution for Bitcoin scaling.

One user lamented that the Coinbase CEO’s Twitter account contains no mention of the Lightning Network. Armstrong attributed this to automatic deletion of tweets.

The Coinbase chief did not provide details or timelines for when the platform would implement the initiative.

The largest US exchange could join Bitfinex, Kraken, OKX and BitMEX, which have already интегрировали LN. Beyond Coinbase, Binance has not yet taken this step.

A year ago, crypto enthusiast David Cohen suggested that adding Lightning Network support could run counter to the business plans of many trading platforms, “because the priority is listing as many altcoins as possible and following market trends”.

A day before his pledge, Armstrong promised to send $100 in cryptocurrency to the authors of the most interesting photos and videos concerning the adoption of digital assets in Africa.

One of the prize-winners was a Cointelegraph journalist going by the handle JoeNakamoto, who posted a video of LN usage in Senegal. According to him, he did not see the promised transfer from Armstrong.

In February, Coinbase launched the Base testnet. The L2 solution for Ethereum is built on the OP Stack architecture from Optimism.

In March, the exchange disclosed priority directions for the development of the emerging ecosystem.
