Bitcoin has become the most mentioned cryptocurrency by the number of mentions among TikTok users — five million posts with the hashtags #bitcoin and #btc have been viewed more than 28 billion times. This is according to a study by CoinGecko.
In the report, analysts cite 15 cryptocurrency-related hashtags that, collectively, amassed 115 billion views.
The most actively used tag was #crypto — it appeared in more than 4 million posts, with a reach of 30 billion.
Second and fifth places were the previously mentioned #bitcoin and #btc. In third place is #nft — cited by authors in 2 million videos with 14 billion views. The fourth spot goes to the hashtag #cryptocurrency — 2 million posts, shown 10 billion times.
Among other cryptocurrencies that made the list:
- Ethereum, with a total of 8 billion views across 1.81 million posts with the hashtags #eth and #ethereum;
- Dogecoin — 3 billion views in 0.46 million videos;
- XRP — 2 billion views across 0.32 million posts.
The TikTok community is also interested in topics such as metaverses, DeFi, the Binance exchange, and blockchain.
The CoinGecko report showed that cryptocurrencies are most popular among residents of European countries. Estonia, Latvia and Norway were in the top three, while Belarus and Ukraine ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
According to Google Trends, as of early June interest in the term ‘cryptocurrency’ fell to its lowest levels since December 2020.
