Compass to launch a 140 MW Bitcoin mining data centre in Canada

Bitcoin mining equipment and services provider Compass Mining has signed a deal with Canadian infrastructure company Red Jar Digital Infrastructure to build a new data centre with capacity of up to 140 MW.

According to пресс-релизу, the facility will be located in Ontario and will be 95% powered by clean electricity.

The agreement provides for joint management of the facility. Under the deal, Compass will help the partner manage construction, train staff, and provide operational oversight of the data centre.

Initially, 100 MW will be reserved for Compass’s mining clients; the remainder will power the company’s own mining equipment.

The company currently has an overall capacity of 30 MW.

“Expanding our current capacity through this deal is a major step forward in enabling retail miners to compete at the institutional level,” said Compass CEO Whit Gibbs.

Earlier in July Compass entered into a cooperation with a California nuclear-power-plant operator, envisaging 150 MW for bitcoin mining.

In September, the company presented a home-mining solution, designed to address the shortage of hosting space in data centres.
