On November 24, the developer of the popular app informed about an update to the privacy policy, which drew a volley of criticism from the community. Users pointed to a drop in their privacy and higher risks of identifying individuals for law enforcement actions.
The company attributed the move to a desire to improve the services offered, as well as to ensure security, protection against fraud and compliance with regulatory requirements.
The new rules, which will limit the retention period for user data, will take effect in tandem with the privacy policy update, ConsenSys said.
The wallet’s development team explained that information is not accumulated during balance checks. It is only collected when transactions are performed.
The company emphasised that it does not monetise data.
Future updates will also make it easier for users to switch to alternative RPC [by default Infura, part of ConsenSys].
In November, the decentralised exchange Uniswap updated its privacy policy.
