CryptoQuant Observes Awakening of Dormant Bitcoins

From January to March, approximately 62,800 BTC, which had remained inactive for over seven years, suddenly “awoke” and changed wallets. By comparison, only 28,000 BTC were moved during the same period last year, according to CryptoQuant.

The increase in this metric was 121%.

The calculation excluded 141,000 BTC related to the transfer to Mt.Gox in May 2024, providing a “cleaner” picture of organic market activity.

Experts suggest that such phenomena may indicate a shift in sentiment among long-term holders. Possible reasons include current macroeconomic instability, revised price expectations, or increased institutional investor demand for liquidity.

In April, CryptoQuant detected the activation of 1,057 BTC that had been inactive for the past 7-10 years. The trigger might have been panic in the stock market following President Donald Trump’s “liberation” tariffs.

Earlier, BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes predicted a rise in the value of digital gold above $100,000 due to the U.S. Treasury’s buyback of government bonds.
