Cybersecurity experts report a rise in ransomware attacks

In the third quarter of 2020, the number of hacker attacks using ransomware significantly increased — they accounted for about 51% of all malware attacks. This is evidenced by data from the report on current cyber threats by Positive Technologies specialists.

Among the most widespread are Netwalker, REvil, Maze, DoppelPaymer and RansomEXX.

\”Ransomware operators are conducting fewer mass attacks, choosing instead to target large companies capable of paying a big ransom, or organisations for which disruption to operations is dangerous, and they deliver targeted strikes,\” said Positive Technologies.

Private individuals are attacked far more often by spyware programs.

Cybersecurity specialists noted that after a sharp rise in the first half of the year, the growth in the number of attacks slowed — their total number rose by just 2.7%.

As reported in data from ESET specialists, in the third quarter of 2020 the activity of hidden mining programs rose.
