The US Senate Banking Committee has preliminarily approved Senator Cynthia Lummis to chair the subcommittee on digital assets.
Senate Banking subcommittee on digital assets has the following GOP members, per internal planning doc:
Lummis (Wyo)- Chair
Moreno (Ohio)
Tillis (NC)
Hagerty (Tenn)
McCormick (Pa.)— Brendan Pedersen (@BrendanPedersen) January 9, 2025
The panel will also include several crypto-friendly lawmakers — Bill Hagerty and Bernie Moreno.
The subcommittee and its members are subject to approval by the Senate Banking Committee. Its chair, Tim Scott, oversaw the initiative.
His predecessor, crypto-sceptic Sherrod Brown, is not part of the new line-up. Senator Elizabeth Warren will remain a leading critic.
In the House, French Hill became chair of the Financial Services Committee.
His predecessor Patrick McHenry left the post at the end of 2024. He played a key role in advancing the payments stablecoin bill and the Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act (FIT21).
Hill led the group focused on digital assets. He is associated with the drafting of the two aforementioned measures.
