CZ Criticizes AI Agent Tokens as Largely Useless

At the Token2049 conference, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao urged the crypto industry to create AI agents with tokens that demonstrate “real utility,” labeling most existing examples as “useless.” This was reported by The Block.

“I want to see real AI agents that have real utility, that can actually help you, with tokens. There are launchpads for AI tokens where you press a button, and you have an AI with your own name. This token is useless, 99.99% of them are useless,” stated CZ.

He noted that artificial intelligence will completely transform the user experience in the crypto industry and change the ways of interacting with the blockchain. Meanwhile, cryptocurrency could become the currency for AI:

“AI will not swipe a card, receive an SMS code, this does not work for AI. It will be cryptocurrency.”

Zhao also pointed out that the data available on the internet for training AI is already exhausted, and blockchain can help gather new information while preserving user privacy and enabling monetization.

Previously, CZ had already emphasized the need to focus on the practical utility of AI projects instead of tokens, which are not beneficial to every initiative.

“While cryptocurrency is the currency for AI, not every agent needs its own token. They can charge fees for services in existing cryptocurrency. Launch a coin only if you have scale. Focus on utility, not tokens,” Zhao urged.

Experts at Sygnum believe that tokens associated with AI agents could become a new trend in 2025, yet they remain predominantly speculative assets.
