DeFi project EasyFi loses $6 million in hack

Hackers siphoned off around $6 million from the liquidity pools of the EasyFi lending protocol, which uses Layer 2 solutions from Matic Network (now Polygon).

CEO and founder Ankitt Gaur said that the attackers gained remote access to his computer and seized the keys to his MetaMask wallet.

According to him, the attack was “well-planned”. The hackers managed to seize USDT and DAI stablecoins and move out 2.98 million EASY tokens.

“The computer was not used for everyday operations, but exclusively for official transfers. The hacker waited for the right moment and carried out a well-planned attack.”.

Gaur stressed that the coins have not yet been sold due to their low liquidity. The EasyFi head offered the hacker a $1 million reward for returning the funds.

In the last 24 hours, the project’s token fell by 25%, according to CoinMarketCap.

Earlier a similar incident occurred with the founder of the DeFi mutual-insurance project Nexus Mutual, Hugh Karp. By substituting MetaMask with a malicious version, the hacker managed to steal more than $8 million.
