The company behind ENS Domains earned 5,400 ETH (~$8.8 million). Sales volume nearly doubled from June.

The number of holders with at least one ENS domain exceeded 48,000.

User activity is intensifying ahead of the migration to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm as part of the The Merge update (expected September 19).

The CEO of True Names Limited, the company behind ENS Domains, Kori Whitaker told Decrypt that the surge in activity is also tied to a strengthening ecosystem. He said participants are building communities and disseminating information about ENS use cases.

Among other factors, he cited lower gas prices and growing popularity of the service among non-English-speaking users, particularly Spanish- and Arabic-speakers.

In July, developers introduced wrapped ENS domains with extended functionality.

Earlier, British actor Anthony Hopkins changed his Twitter display name to his own ENS domain.
