Digital tenge project moves to a new structure

National Bank of Kazakhstan представил новую структуру — Национальную платежную корпорацию (НПК), — which, in particular, will handle the implementation of the digital tenge project.

NPC was created through the reorganisation of the ‘Kazakhstan Centre for Interbank Settlements’.

The NPC is expected to boost the efficiency and security of the country’s payment infrastructure, as well as accelerate the digitalisation of the financial sector.

Earlier in December 2022, the National Bank of Kazakhstan completed the second phase of testing of the digital tenge platform, in which real consumers and retail and service enterprises participated.

As of October 2022, more than 3,500 token transactions were completed through a dedicated app.

It is planned to bring the digital tenge into routine operation by the end of 2023.
