In 2019, Trump first spoke about Bitcoin and Libra (now Diem). In his view, their value is extremely volatile and largely unbacked.
Later, former U.S. national security adviser John Bolton wrote in his memoirs that Trump had expressed his aversion to digital gold as early as May 2018.
