Donald Trump Envisions a Bitcoin Mining Superpower
During a podcast with Adin Ross, U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump stated that the country should not sell the leading cryptocurrency.
His comments followed last week’s transfer of 28,000 BTC (~$1.56 billion) from a government address to an unknown wallet.
“This is something [the authorities] should not do because they need to try to build [a system]. If we don’t do it, China will, and other countries will, they will do it anyway,” he added.
Trump described cryptocurrency as “very modern” and likened it to artificial intelligence:
“It’s like AI — ‘do you like it or not?’ — if we don’t do it, China or other people will. We can’t fall behind, and cryptocurrency is right in that area.”
The presidential hopeful also expressed a desire for the U.S. to become a “Bitcoin mining superpower.”
Previously, Trump saw the leading cryptocurrency as a solution to the national debt problem, which has exceeded $35 trillion. This idea is also a central part of the Bitcoin Act bill introduced by Senator Cynthia Lummis.
Speaking at the Bitcoin 2024 conference, Trump raised $25 million in campaign donations.
Bloomberg has noted the hopes of Bitcoin companies for the former president’s return to the White House.
