Donald Trump Opens Cryptocurrency Donation Channel

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the opening of a cryptocurrency donation account for his election campaign.

In several videos posted by NFT artist Frank Degods, the politician expressed his readiness to accept digital assets.

“Can we donate to the Trump campaign using cryptocurrency? I believe the answer is yes,” stated the presidential candidate.

According to Trump, current President Joe Biden “doesn’t even know” what cryptocurrency is.

“If you like digital assets in any form, and they exist in many different forms, and if you support them, you better vote for Trump,” he added.

The election contender made his statements at a gathering with buyers of his NFT collection Mugshot Edition. Attendees purchased more than 47 non-fungible tokens in a single transaction priced at $99.

Responding to a question about whether he would maintain the cryptocurrency business in the U.S., Trump promised to address the issue:

“If cryptocurrency is leaving the U.S. due to hostility towards it, we will stop that. If the country is going to embrace [digital assets], we must allow them to stay.”

Electric Capital co-founder Avichal Garg remarked that it is “amazing to see the evolution” of Trump on cryptocurrency.

“If Biden remains anti-crypto, the next stage will be the industry moving from an anti-Gensler stance to anti-Biden and anti-Democrats,” he believes.

FOX Business journalist Eleanor Terrett noted the starkly opposing positions of the two main candidates regarding digital assets.

“Biden made it clear he would side with Senator Elizabeth Warren and Gary Gensler by continuing to support regulation by enforcement. Trump said he would end hostility towards cryptocurrency in the U.S. and ensure the start of campaign donations in digital assets,” Terrett emphasized.

Previously, a Paradigm survey revealed that 48% of voters holding cryptocurrencies plan to vote for Trump.

Back in March 2024, the Republican Party leader stated that he does not intend to interfere with the use of Bitcoin or other digital assets if he wins the November elections.

He described the first cryptocurrency as “an additional form of currency” that will require specific regulation by authorities. In Trump’s view, Bitcoin has already “taken on a life of its own.”
