Duma approves bill requiring candidates to declare cryptocurrency holdings

The State Duma has approved in the first reading a bill obliging candidates for elected positions to disclose information about expenditures on acquiring digital financial assets and digital currencies, according to «Прайм».

Under the document, candidates must report cryptocurrency purchases over the past three years if the transaction value exceeds their total income. Candidates will also be obliged to disclose information about similar transactions by their spouses and minor children.

In addition, they must provide details of the sources of funds for such transactions.

In December, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree, which obliges officials and contenders for the corresponding posts to disclose information about their digital assets.
