Early Version of Firedancer Client Goes Live on Solana Mainnet

Jump Crypto, the development company, has announced the launch of an early version of the Firedancer client for validators, named Frankendancer, on the Solana mainnet.

The basic Firedancer client has also been activated on the testnet, according to Kevin Bowers, Chief Scientist at Jump Crypto.

Frankendancer is a hybrid of Firedancer technology and Agave validator code. This dual configuration allows for immediate network changes before the main version is released.

According to the statement, the client, written in C, adds an additional layer of security by diversifying Solana’s validator codebase, unlike the original Rust-based software.

“A second independent validator has advantages beyond performance, but performance is a prerequisite for reducing costs and increasing throughput,” Bowers added.

“This is an incredible milestone for our industry,” he noted.

Firedancer aims to enhance Solana’s resilience and address the issue of periodic outages.

Back in July, the network team allocated $1 million for bug hunting in the client.
