Elite Russian-language hacker forum Maza hacked

One of the oldest Russian-language hacker forums, Maza (also known as Mazafaka), has been hacked. User data has leaked online. This was reported by Flashpoint researchers.< !--more-->

The forum has been operating since 2003. Flashpoint describes the forum as ‘elite’, and says it is used by ‘the most sophisticated cybercriminals and financial fraudsters’. Many of them began their activity in the mid-1990s.

As a result of the leak, attackers claim to have gained access to users’ logins, email addresses, passwords, as well as various ways to contact them, including ICQ, AIM, Yahoo, and Skype.

According to the Telegram channel ‘DataLeaks’, the leaked database contains more than three thousand records.

\n

Flashpoint analysts note that the post on the forum in Russian was likely translated via an online translator. This may indicate that the hackers do not master Russian, or were trying to mislead investigators.

Shortly before Maza, another Russian-language hacker forum Verified was hacked. Flashpoint noted that on February 18, 2021, new forum administrators announced a change of ownership and began the process of deanonymisation of the previous operators of Verified, known under the aliases VR_Support, TechAdmin and INC.

The latter was also a moderator of Maza, Flashpoint noted.

The founder of the Internet-Rozysk company, Igor Bederov, told Kommersant that the attack on Maza could be linked to an anti-hacker group TeaMp0isoN. He added that the breach could also have been triggered by personal interest:

Dokuchayev figured in the Lurk hackers case. One of the group’s leaders claimed he was recruited by the FSB, and his actions during many attacks were overseen by Dokuchayev.
