Elon Musk joins Bitcoin meme tied to $100,000 price target

Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk has joined the latest trend by setting in his profile an image of an anime girl with glowing red eyes and the Bitcoin logo in the background.

“Just for a day,” Musk said, whose company recently acquired the first cryptocurrency for $1.5 billion.

Users on social media noted that against this backdrop the price of the leading cryptocurrency accelerated its ascent.

Update: Elon Musk wrote that, together with his kids, he set up some small Dogecoin mining rigs.

Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis set her profile picture to a photo of herself with “laser eyes”.

In November, Lummis promised to move discussion of the leading cryptocurrency to the national level.

The glow-eyed look was also adopted by CoinShares’ Chief Growth Officer Meltem Demirors and MicroStrategy’s chief executive Michael Saylor.

According to TVTropes, “laser eyes” signify superpowers and the ability to directly control objects. The corresponding meme spread after the 2010 release of the computer game Mass Effect 2. Online services appeared that allow adding glowing eyes to photos.

Against the backdrop of the bitcoin price movement above $50,000, the hashtag #LaserRayUntil100K appeared. The meme gained traction among bitcoin optimists confident in a short-term rally to $100,000.

Since the start of the year the price of the leading cryptocurrency has risen by 90%. On Friday, February 19, Bitcoin’s market capitalization reached $1 trillion for the first time.

Earlier this week, Elon Musk described Tesla’s investments in Bitcoin as ‘quite risky’.
