Humanoid Tesla robots could offset low birth rates and avert civilisation’s collapse. Musk said this during remarks at a Wall Street Journal conference.
Responding to questions from journalists, the businessman commented on the current labour shortage. He suggested that in the future the Tesla Bot may replace human labour.
“The foundation of the economy is labour. … There is a shortage of people. I believe that one of the biggest threats to civilisation is the low and rapidly falling birth rate,” Musk said.
The billionaire again stressed that, from a software perspective, Tesla can be regarded as a robotics company. In his words, their autonomous vehicles are like four-wheeled robots that use AI to navigate the real world.
“To build a humanoid, we need to develop some tunable actuators and sensors — essentially use Full Self-Driving and Autopilot in a humanoid robot,” added Musk.
The entrepreneur did not specify a timeline for the appearance of Tesla robots.
In August, Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Bot humanoid. He said it is intended to perform “dangerous, repetitive and boring tasks”.
In April, Elon Musk said that Tesla will become one of the world’s leading AI companies in the world.
