Elon Musk: Tesla's robot business will be more profitable than its car business

Tesla chief executive Elon Musk said that in 2023 the company’s robot business will be worth more than its automotive business and the Full Self-Driving (FSD) autonomous-driving technology. TechCrunch reports.

During the quarterly earnings call, Musk confirmed that Tesla continues to work on the android.

“The importance of Optimus will become evident in the coming years. Those who are perceptive or paying close attention will understand that Optimus will eventually be worth more than the automotive business, more than FSD,” the entrepreneur said.

Musk unveiled the humanoid robot in August 2021. Preliminary data put its height at 173 cm, weight at 57 kg, and a top speed of 8 km/h. Its software will be built on Tesla’s neural networks and the Dojo supercomputer.

In addition, the entrepreneur said that the company plans to launch its own robotaxi service based on Tesla and FSD in 2024.

“I think this could be a very powerful product, and we are aiming to go into mass production in 2024,” Musk said.

In his view, the robotaxi will become a powerful driver of Tesla’s growth.

Musk also said that riding such a form of public transit will be cheaper than taking a bus.

Earlier, in January 2022, the billionaire pledged not to permit a robot uprising.

In March, Tesla incorporated artificial intelligence into the company’s long-term development plan.

In April 2021, Musk said that Tesla would become one of the world’s largest AI companies.
