Elon Musk unveils a truth-seeking alternative to ChatGPT

The billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk said he is working on TruthGPT — an alternative to ChatGPT that functions as an AI with the maximum pursuit of truth. He рассказал in an interview with Fox News’s Tucker Carlson.

The billionaire argues that an alternative approach to building AI is needed to avoid the destruction of humanity.

“I’m going to launch something I call TruthGPT or a truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe,” he said.

In his view, this may be the best path to safety in the sense that an AI that understands the principles of the world is unlikely to destroy humanity.

“Because we are an interesting part of the universe,” he added.

Musk compared the supposed absence of AI’s desire to destroy humanity with how humans strive to protect chimpanzees.

“We understand that humanity may decide to track down all chimpanzees and kill them. But in reality we are glad they exist, and we strive to protect their habitat,” the billionaire said.

Notably, Neuralink, the company Musk founded that develops brain implants, was accused of cruel treatment of test monkeys and other animals.

The entrepreneur presented TruthGPT as a course correction for OpenAI. He hinted that the profit motive of the California startup could potentially undermine the ethics of AI models.

This is not the first time Musk has contemplated creating TruthGPT. In February he wrote about it on Twitter.

In March, the billionaire, together with other AI researchers signed an open letter urging companies to pause experiments with large language models.

In April, it emerged that Musk registered a company X.AI. The venture is expected to compete with OpenAI.

In the same month the billionaire acquired several thousand GPUs, needed for training neural networks.

In February, media reported that Musk was recruiting a team to build a competitor to ChatGPT.
