
Ethereum address linked to Lazarus group sanctioned by US; hackers tied to Ronin attack
The U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) added a cryptocurrency wallet address to its sanctions list, believed to be linked to the Lazarus group.
The address is marked as linked to the Ronin sidechain attack. At the time of writing, the wallet held 147,753 ETH.
Analysts at Chainalysis also noted that the address was involved in the Ronin breach — it received stolen 173,600 ETH and 25.5 million USDC.
In the FBI statement, it says that Lazarus was responsible for the theft of about $620 million in cryptocurrency. In the Ronin attack, the attacker withdrew about $625 million.
Lazarus is linked to the North Korean authorities. Hackers involved in other major hacks in the crypto industry.
The attack on the Ronin sidechain was disclosed on March 29. The Ronin hack was the largest in the history of the DeFi sector.
