Ethereum Developers Activate Dencun Hard Fork on Goerli Testnet
The core Ethereum team deployed the Dencun (Cancun-Deneb) update on the Goerli test network. However, the hard fork was not completed as planned.

The upgrade implemented EIP-4844. It includes the Proto-Danksharding option, designed to scale the network by creating a new type of transaction for large binary data arrays (BLOB). This is expected to reduce fees for L2 solutions based on Rollups technology.
Key developer Tim Beiko reported that “BLOB objects are coming,” although most of them are empty.
The full deployment of the upgrade was not completed, presumably because about one-fifth of client operators did not update their software (there were several updates).
And it seems like we have a chain split! Client teams are looking into it, but it’s likely to a while to pin down + fix the issues. Keep an eye out for updates!

“It seems we have a chain split! Client teams are studying this, but it will likely take some time to identify and resolve the issues. Stay tuned for updates!” wrote Beiko.
He estimated that the work could take up to several days.
Developers were able to make the necessary changes and finalize the hard fork within four hours, reported Parithosh Jayanthi from the Ethereum Foundation.
The goerli fork finalized! 😀https://t.co/LIa3d4Ml5H
After the fix was patched in, the validators came back online and the chain started finalizing again. The MEV circuitbreaker automatically disables and mev-blocks have started flowing through as well.

According to the previously presented schedule, the deployment of Dencun is set for January 30 on the Sepolia testnet, and February 7 on Holesky. The team intends to conduct the hard fork on the main network around the end of February.
Initially planned for the last quarter of 2023, the update was postponed by developers due to ongoing consensus issues.
