Ethereum Foundation Unveils Plan to Enhance User Experience

The Ethereum Foundation has launched a new phase of the Trillion Dollar Security initiative, focusing on UX in wallets and applications.

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has initiated a new phase of the Trillion Dollar Security initiative. The primary focus will be on improving user experience (UX) in wallets and applications.

According to the foundation’s research, shortcomings in UX are the most pressing issue for both private and institutional users.

Security Standard for Wallets

The organisation believes that the ecosystem requires a unified security standard for wallets. This standard should serve as a benchmark for users when selecting a reliable application.

The guidelines will require developers to implement features for transaction transparency, protection against compromise, and confirmation management. To expedite their development and implementation, the Ethereum Foundation will grant funding to the Walletbeat project.

Addressing the Issue of “Blind Signatures”

One of the main UX challenges is “blind signatures,” where users approve transactions without understanding their essence. To address this, the foundation has proposed several work directions.

The first is decoding transaction data to display it in a human-readable format. To simplify this task for wallet developers, the foundation will promote the open database Verifier Alliance (VERA).

The second is revisiting old Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIP) and creating new standards that will simplify transaction interpretation by wallets.

The third is transaction simulation. This feature will allow users to see the final result of an operation before signing it.

Preventing Vulnerabilities

Another focus area is assisting developers in identifying vulnerabilities in code before deploying smart contracts. EF will aid in creating a unified open database of such issues. Development tools will be able to use it for automatic code verification.

The foundation also noted that the ecosystem needs simple wallets for non-technical users and specialised solutions for corporate clients. The organisation called on the community for collaboration.

Back in June, the Ethereum Foundation published the first report under the Trillion Dollar Security initiative. Researchers identified six key areas requiring significant improvements to ensure network security in the future.
