Ethereum Team Launches Hoodi Testnet

On March 17, Ethereum developers launched a new long-term test network, Hoodi, to facilitate the final verification of the Pectra upgrade.

The decision to create the testnet was made on March 13 during a regular teleconference of the ACDE Call following issues with the deployment of the hard fork in Holesky.

The test network’s operation was restored after approximately two weeks. However, it is not possible to test the validator exit function in Pectra within it.

The activation of the hard fork in Hoodi is scheduled for March 26. If the update is successfully implemented in the testnet, deployment on the Ethereum mainnet will occur no sooner than 30 days later.

Developer Dmitriy Gusakov warned before the launch of Hoodi that not all options are available in the test network’s configuration. Additionally, some client issues may arise in the initial days.

Back on March 5, the implementation of the Pectra hard fork in the Sepolia testnet caused a failure in transaction processing. The situation was exacerbated by the intervention of a malicious actor.
