Evmos developers to relaunch mainnet for Ethereum–Cosmos interoperability
The team EVM-compatible Evmos protocol, which enables transactions between Ethereum and Cosmos, will relaunch the mainnet after a failed launch. CoinDesk reports.
The initial launch at the beginning of March ran into problems related to the large number of required integrations.
“Distribution of [tokens] and the launch were hindered by several user-interaction errors. There were those who did not follow instructions to obtain the application, and their funds were stuck. This is our fault — we should have been better prepared for using [wallets],”
— said Evmos founder Federico Kunze Küllmer.
Subsequently, the team faced new difficulties — developers IBC reported a bug in the code that prevented liquidity pools from being created on Osmosis.
While work to fix the bug was underway, the IBC team provided additional information, and Kunze Küllmer acknowledged the vulnerability as critically important for security.
Developers issued an update that required participation from network validators, but its deployment was unsuccessful, causing the mainnet to be halted.
Network upgrade has unfortunately failed. The chain is halted and is stopped for the next 24-48 hours while the team and validators reconvene and decide next steps. No transactions will be processed in the meantime.
We are gathering all the information available.

Within a few hours, the team and validators collectively decided to halt the restart attempts.
“I think we underestimated the importance of testing all these tools. We are trying to create a unique user interface, moving Ethereum into Cosmos and vice versa. Because of this, we have too broad a scope — not only a blockchain with many bugs, but solutions capable of handling both ecosystems simultaneously,” says Kunze Küllmer.
Zaki Manian, the former director of Tendermint Labs—the Cosmos development company—believes Evmos has a chance for a new functional launch. In his view, the first attempt was 95% successful.
The protocol team is working on code fixes. Another line of activity is creating a guide to comprehensive updates in the Cosmos network, “so that no one else suffers from this again,” added Kunze Küllmer.
The question remains unresolved, actively discussed by the community — whether to relaunch from scratch or resume the blockchain history from block #58,700.
In February, Tendermint rebranded to Ignite, after one of the co-founders used the original name for his new project.
