A judge overseeing the case of Ryan Salame, former head of FTX’s Bahamian division, granted a postponement for the commencement of his prison sentence to October 13, 2024. The delay was attributed to a “German shepherd bite” suffered by the former executive.
The ex-CEO required surgery, preventing him from reporting to prison on the previously scheduled date of August 29.
In May, the Southern District of New York court sentenced Ryan Salame to 7.5 years in prison.
In September 2023, he pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange. The charges involved conspiracy to make unlawful donations and operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, he also received three years of probation, was ordered to forfeit $6 million, and pay over $5 million in restitution.
Co-founder and former CEO of the platform, Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), was found guilty on all charges by a jury in November 2023. In March 2024, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison. SBF’s lawyers appealed the court’s decision.
Prior to Salame, former Alameda Research head Caroline Ellison, FTX’s CTO Gary Wang, and the exchange’s engineering director Nishad Singh also pleaded guilty.
