FIDE to launch NFT marketplace ChessNFT on the Free TON blockchain
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) announced the launch of an NFT marketplace, ChessNFT, on the Free TON blockchain, according to a press release.
The platform is due to be fully functional by the end of November. The project is being implemented in partnership with the company TON Labs, a member of the Free TON governing council.
ChessNFT will digitise and gamify the ‘signature moments’ of matches. The platform will also offer chess-related art and collectibles.
FIDE has begun an exciting and ambitious digitisation journey to bring a new experience and opportunities for chess players around the world. We are pleased to take the first step toward creating a comprehensive NFT marketplace just in time ahead of the world championship in Dubai in November, — Arkady Dvorkovich, the federation’s president and former deputy prime minister of the Russian Federation.
FIDE chose the Free TON blockchain as the basis for the marketplace for its ‘ability to process transactions on a global level’.
In October, the gallery in Saint Petersburg launched an NFT platform on the Free TON blockchain.
Earlier, the Free TON developers introduced the True NFT technology.
