Filecoin developers launch Saturn content-delivery network

The creators of the Filecoin decentralised storage platform have launched the Saturn content-delivery network, The Block reports.

The new product is aimed at the decentralised applications segment and is designed to deliver high performance, as well as reduce the hardware requirements for network participants.

Representatives of Protocol Labs emphasised that Saturn will complement the core data-storage layer built on Filecoin.

To run a node, a user will need at least 1 terabyte of disk space.

“The launch of Saturn, Filecoin’s content-delivery network, achieves two of the project’s key objectives: fast, open access to humanity’s most important information and the opportunity for everyone to participate in the ecosystem,” said project lead Ansgar Grunseid.

Earlier, the Filecoin Foundation and Lockheed Martin took up the development of a program to deploy an interplanetary file system (IPFS) in space.
