Five mining pools signal support for Taproot upgrade on the Bitcoin network

The largest mining pools are signaling support for the Taproot upgrade on the Bitcoin network, according to data from Taproot Watch.

Among them:

These pools account for 55.22% of the total Bitcoin network hashrate.

Update:

The hash rate of Taproot-supporting pools fell to 30.31%. Now only four pools signal support for the upgrade — F2Pool, 1Thash, SlushPool and Foundry USA.

Update:

AntPool has returned to the list of Taproot-supporting pools, with a hash rate of 48%.

Miners supporting the upgrade include data embedded in mined blocks called the ‘signal bit’. First, this was done by SlushPool a few days ago.

The Speedy Trial activation method was included in the Bitcoin Core 0.21.1 release, which took place on May 2.

The mechanism provides a three-month window, during which, in any of the roughly two-week periods between difficulty retargets, 90% of mined blocks must signal support for the upgrade.

This would mean that roughly 90% of miners agree to adopt the new rules. Once the threshold is reached, Taproot will be activated within the following three months. Until then, the upgrade will remain blocked.

If miners approve it, it will be one of the most significant events in cryptocurrency history. In addition to improving scalability and privacy, the upgrade aims to enhance network functionality and coin fungibility.
