Florida to allow payment of state fees in cryptocurrency

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis intends to give businesses the option to use cryptocurrencies to pay state fees. This follows from the recommendations for the state’s budget for the 2022/2023 fiscal year.

DeSantis proposed allocating $200,000 to the Department of Financial Services to implement crypto payments directly by the department.

“Florida encourages cryptocurrencies as a means of commerce and to promote the state’s appeal to business and economic growth,” the document says.

In the subsection “Creating a crypto-friendly Florida,” the governor also provided for funding for blockchain programs totaling $500,000.

These funds are to be split evenly between two pilot projects: vehicle registration and transaction authentication Medicaid to prevent potential fraud.

Earlier, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez said he intended to allow government employees to receive a salary in Bitcoin.

Previously, he announced the formation of a team to develop a plan for greater involvement of the city in the cryptocurrency industry, and the administration voted to study options to integrate Bitcoin into municipal infrastructure.

Authorities in Miami-Dade County have formed a group to study the possibility of paying taxes in digital assets.
