
Floyd Mayweather to release NFT collection
Floyd Mayweather, multiple-time world boxing champion, announced the release of a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) ahead of his bout with YouTuber Logan Paul.
“Right now my career is over, but my name will live on thanks to what I did, the legacy I left, and the mark I left in sport,” Mayweather said.
On May 26, the athlete will release as NFTs mementos, artworks and animations. The project involved участвовали IronBend, Reality Gaming Group and Zytara Labs.
It is not specified on which marketplace the non-fungible tokens will be listed.
In 2017 Mayweather promoted the initial coin offering (ICO) of the market-prediction project Stox. Two years later an investor accused the blockchain platform and its founder Moshe Hogeg of misusing more than $4.6 million.
In 2018, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission fined Mayweather $614 000 for promoting the Centra Tech ICO. The boxer did not admit or deny the regulator’s allegations but agreed to pay the ill-gotten gains, the penalty and interest.
Earlier, a Florida court had ruled the project’s token a security. The founders of Centra Tech were accused of deceiving investors. In 2020, one of them received year in prison .
In April 2021, the mixed martial artist Khabib Nurmagomedov put up for auction a unique NFT at a starting price of $290,000.
In May, the Canadian footballer of Bayern Munich Alphonso Davies announced the release of his own collection of non-fungible tokens on the Binance platform.
