Renowned designer Jony Ive, who departed from Apple five years ago, has confirmed his collaboration on a new AI device with OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman. He disclosed this in a conversation with The New York Times.
Details about the project remain scarce. It is known that Ive was introduced to Altman through Airbnb’s CEO Brian Chesky. By the end of the year, the project could attract $1 billion in funding, the newspaper noted.
Currently, the company employs 10 staff members, including Tang Tan and Evans Hankey, both of whom worked with Ive on the iPhone.
The former Apple designer’s company, LoveFrom, is leading the development of the device. The product is being created based on artificial intelligence. Its release date is unknown.
In April, media reported on Ive’s ambition to create a smartphone-like gadget equipped with AI.
According to insiders, the device will offer users an intuitive way to integrate neural networks into everyday life.
