Former Go Champion Sells Winning Game Against AI as NFT

South Korean professional Go player Lee Sedol sold a non-fungible token (NFT) representing his sole victory against Google’s AlphaGo AI.

Sedol placed the NFT titled Lee Sedol vs. AlphaGo, Round 4 on the OpenSea platform. The auction was won by venture capital firm Doohan Capital. The lot went under the hammer for 60 ETH (~$280,171 at the time of writing).

In 2016 the player played a match against an artificial intelligence developed by Google’s DeepMind unit. Of five games, Sedol won only one.

The NFT is a step-by-step visualization of the game that ended in AlphaGo’s resignation. The token contains some “unlocked content” accessible exclusively to the new owner.

As a reminder, Merriam-Webster added to the eponymous dictionary definition of ‘NFT’ and listed it on OpenSea as a non-fungible token.

In April 2021 the platform announced the integration with the Immutable X protocol, which would fully remove fees on token trading.
