Former U.S. Treasurer Rosie Gumataotao Rios Joins Ripple

Former U.S. Treasurer Rosie Gumataotao Rios joined Ripple’s board of directors. The company also appointed a new chief financial officer (CFO) — Kristina Campbell, the former head of PayNearMe and Green Dot.

Rosie Gumataotao Rios brings 30 years of experience in public policy and investment management. From 2009 to 2016 she served as the U.S. Treasurer under President Barack Obama.

“Ripple is one of the best examples of how to legally use cryptocurrency to substantially facilitate payments around the world,” said Rios.

Campbell previously served as chief financial officer of the payments company PayNearMe. At Green Dot she held various leadership roles, including as CFO of the digital bank GoBank.

At Ripple, Campbell will shape the company’s financial strategy, seek to accelerate its growth and increase shareholder value.

In December 2020, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged Ripple and its executives with an unregistered sale of securities under the guise of digital tokens worth $1.3 billion. The regulator later amended the suit, focusing on the actions of CEO Brad Garlinghouse and co-founder Chris Larsen.

Earlier on May 4, the SEC filed a motion to bar XRP token holders from participating in the Ripple case. The regulator argued that third-party involvement would delay the proceedings and require additional resources.

Earlier foreign regulators declined to assist the SEC in its case against Ripple.
