During the preliminary hearings, Russian national Alexander Vinnik asked the French court to release him from custody to see his wife. The court rejected the request, his lawyer Frédéric Belo told TASS.
«The court did not grant our request, citing that Vinnik may not return to prison because he is a Russian citizen and has no special ties with France,» he said.
The suspect was ordered to remain in custody until the substantive hearing on the merits in October.
Vinnik’s defence emphasises that the investigation conducted by French investigators rests on conclusions of the American judicial system, and the facts have not been properly verified.
Earlier, French courts repeatedly rejected the defence’s requests for the Russian citizen’s release from custody.
The Russian embassy also requested that Vinnik be placed under house arrest.
