The US arm of the bitcoin exchange FTX announced the acquisition of Good Luck Games, the developer of the card-game strategy Storybook Brawl. ForkLog was told by company representatives.
After the deal closes, the Washington-based firm will be integrated into FTX Gaming. The exchange announced in February plans to launch a gaming division as part of the US arm.
Storybook Brawl is available in open beta and has received numerous positive reviews on Steam, FTX noted.
“We couldn’t stop playing Storybook Brawl when it appeared in early access. Beyond the incredible fun and engaging gameplay, we saw an opportunity to be at the forefront of integrating gaming and crypto transactions,” said FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.
According to Good Luck Games CEO Matthew Place, they found a crypto-exchange-like approach to the implementation of digital property rights.
FTX will showcase Storybook Brawl at its booth at the upcoming Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. The game is currently available in a mobile version via Early Access on Steam. A full PC launch is expected in the summer.
FTX Gaming intends to focus on integrating environmentally friendly blockchain technologies into the gaming industry.
FTX, together with Solana Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners founded a fund of $100 million to support blockchain games.
