GameFi apps set to appear on Google Play

In Google’s Android app store, Google Play, there will be the opportunity to host games and dapps with options to buy, sell and earn digital assets.

The tech giant said the initiative aims to support developers’ needs and ambitions.

Reddit has partnered with Google in its rollout.

“From rethinking traditional games using user-generated content to boosting loyalty through unique NFT rewards, we are pleased to see that such options […] help teams grow their business,” wrote Joseph Mills, Product Manager for Google Play.

The senior executive stressed that, given the widespread fraud in the crypto world, Google will take steps to protect users.

“We require that apps be transparent to users about digital assets,” he said.

Developers of such dapps must indicate in Play Console that their offering includes blockchain elements. In this regard they will comply with Google Play’s policy on gambling.

Earlier, the blockchain game Axie Infinity became available in the App Store in a number of countries.

Reddit announced collectible avatars on the blockchain Polygon in July 2022. The platform does not identify them as NFT and accepts only fiat.

In May 2023 the number of such avatars exceeded 10 million.
