Gemini unveils plans to open an office in India
The cryptocurrency exchange Gemini will open an office in Gurgaon, India, as part of its expansion in the Asia-Pacific region. Об этом говорится в пресс-релизе.
According to the statement, the company is hiring staff for Gemini’s second-largest ‘engineering center after the United States’.
“Our […] teams in India will make a significant contribution to the development of the next-generation web interface and mobile user interface, the foundational pillars of the platform in compliance, security and payments, alongside creating new feature sets for our NFT and crypto-asset markets”, — said representatives of the exchange.
In a separate statement on behalf of Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, Pravjit Tiwana was named CEO of Gemini Asia Pacific. He will take on new responsibilities in addition to his role as CTO.
In March it became known that the bitcoin exchange intends to launch a crypto-derivatives platform aimed at the international market. According to media reports, Gemini allegedly will register a new service outside the United States.
In June 2022, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission sued Gemini. In the documents, it was claimed that the platform misled the regulator regarding bitcoin futures contracts.
In early 2023, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission also charged the exchange in unregistered trading of securities through the Earn service. Earlier, the company paused payments under the program amid financial difficulties of its major partner — the OTC platform Genesis Global Capital.
Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss called the SEC’s allegations ‘super unconvincing’ and a ‘fabricated penalty ticket’.
Bloomberg sources said in April reported a $100 million loan, provided to the bitcoin exchange by the Winklevoss brothers.
