Global Bitcoin ATM Numbers Decline by 11% in 2023

In 2023, the number of cryptocurrency ATMs installed worldwide decreased from 37,830 to 33,484 units, marking a decline of approximately 11.4%, according to Coin ATM Radar.

This marks the first recorded annual decrease in operational devices since the service began tracking the market.

The United States dominates the market, accounting for over 82% of cryptocurrency ATMs. However, the reduction in the American segment exceeded the overall figure, with a 15.4% drop (from 32,672 to 27,631).

Among the top three manufacturers—General Bytes, Genesis Coin, and BitAccess—BitAccess saw a 26% decline in deployed bitcoin ATMs. The other two companies increased their numbers.

Bitcoin Depot leads among operators with 6,297 ATMs under management, capturing nearly 19% of the market share. In July, the company went public on Nasdaq through a reverse merger.

Earlier in 2023, after a decline in the number of operational bitcoin ATMs, the pace of installations resumed growth by mid-year.
