GM chief does not rule out selling cars for Bitcoin
GM CEO Mary Barra hinted that the automaker would begin accepting payments in the first cryptocurrency if there is customer demand.
In the CNBC interview, she said:
“Nothing prevents us from doing this. We will be guided by our customers.”
According to her, the automaker aims to make the purchasing and ownership processes for its customers as simple as possible.
By 2035, GM plans to shift to 100% electric-vehicle production across its model lineup.
In March 2021 the electric-car maker began selling cars for the first cryptocurrency. By May, the company stopped accepting Bitcoin due to concerns about the environmental impact of mining.
In June, Tesla CEO Elon Musksaid that resuming work with cryptocurrency would be possible if the share of renewable energy in mining reaches about 50% with a positive trajectory.
BTC.TOP founder and head Jiang Zhuer replied to Musk that after the latest Chinese authorities’ prohibitive measures against mining, more than half of Bitcoin’s hashrate is already generated from “green” energy.
Earlier, General Motors, together with BMW, Ford, Renault and Honda, tested a blockchain-based vehicle identification and payments system.
