On February 22, Google announced a temporary restriction on the ability to generate images of people using the AI tool Gemini. The neural network had been producing illustrations with historical inaccuracies.
We’re already working to address recent issues with Gemini’s image generation feature. While we do this, we’re going to pause the image generation of people and will re-release an improved version soon. https://t.co/SLxYPGoqOZ

“The Gemini AI model does indeed generate a wide range of people. And this is generally good because users around the world use it. But in this case, it did not cope with the task,” the corporation clarified.
According to The Verge, the neural network depicted Black Founding Fathers and female U.S. senators from the 1800s, although in reality, they were all white men.
The issue was also noted by users on X. In one instance, the neural network failed to generate the head of the Catholic Church as a white male.
