Google to test AR glasses in August

Testing will be limited to several dozen Google employees and trusted partners. The prototypes will be equipped with cameras, microphones and built-in displays in the lenses. With them, developers will assess the audio and visual perception for features such as translation, transcription and navigation.

However, the device’s capabilities will be limited. The glasses will not be able to take photos or videos, although Google will use the image data to translate text and display directions.

After the ‘completion of the experience,’ all confidential data such as faces and license plates will be deleted. The company will be able to use them for up to 30 days only if additional debugging or analysis is required.

Google unveiled the next generation of augmented reality glasses at the I/O developer conference in May 2022. The first version of the device, released in 2014, did not find success.
