Grok Labels Elon Musk as Chief Misinformation Spreader
Elon Musk is identified as the primary disseminator of misinformation on X, according to Grok, an AI assistant from entrepreneur xAI’s startup, integrated into his social network.
The billionaire, with his vast audience, frequently spreads false information on various topics, claims the chatbot. Other figures identified by the neural network as misinformation spreaders include Donald Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Alex Jones, and RT (Russian Television).
Trump shares false claims about elections, Kennedy Jr. about vaccines, while Alex Jones is notorious for spreading conspiracy theories. Russian Television lies about political issues, added Grok.
As sources, the chatbot cited Rolling Stone, The Guardian, NPR, and NewsGuard.
“The selection process involved analyzing numerous sources, including academic research, fact-checking organizations, and media reports, to identify those with significant influence and a history of spreading false or misleading information,” noted the AI.
Criteria for the ranking included the volume of false data spread, number of followers, and mentions in credible reports.
Upon receiving a clarifying question, Grok noted that the conclusions might be biased, as the provided sources are predominantly associated with Democratic and liberal funding or opinions.
In January, artificial intelligence was used to spread fake news about fires in Southern California.
A similar situation arose after Hurricane Helen.
